LIBRARY HAPPENINGS
The library will be closed on Sunday, September 5th, and Monday, September 6th in observance of Labor Day. We will reopen Tuesday, September 7th at 9 a.m.
There will be no storytime on Monday, September 6th library is closed.
Storytime will meet on Tuesday, September 7th at 10:30 a.m. Storytime is for children ages 3-6 and their parent or caregiver.
Lapsit will meet on Wednesday, September 8th at 10:30 a.m. Lapsit is for children ages birth-3 and their parent or caregiver.
Book Club will meet again on September 13th at 3 p.m. They will be discussing “Look Again” by Lisa Scottoline.
Kim Brown, The Real D.W. will be at the library on Thursday, September 9th for a program at 7 p.m. Come join us for this fun program where children will learn how to draw Arthur and can have books signed by D.W.
HOSTS
Would you like to take on a positive mentoring role in one of Lexington's elementary schools? The HOSTS Learning Program at Morton Elementary is looking for adult mentors for the upcoming school year, 2010 - 2011. Mentors volunteer to work one-on-one with a 1st through 5th grade student. A mentoring session takes 30 minutes and is completely planned for you by the HOSTS coordinator. Adult mentoring times are 9:00, 11:00. 12:30 or 1:00 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays. Mentors help the same student at the same time each week. If you are interested in learning more or would like to become a mentor please contact Mary M. Smith at Morton Elementary School 324-3764. Mentoring will start September 7th.
MOM’S GROUP
Join us for Mom’s group! Parkview Baptist Church, 8:45 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Sept. 9 and 23rd; Oct. 7th and 21st; Nov. 4th and 18th; Dec. 2nd and 16th. Mom’s Group is for parents with kids of all ages. We will laugh a lot, pray for each other, an come together in a community that supports one another. Will be using the book “Raising Respectful Children In A Disrespectful World” by Jill Rigby. CITY OF LEXINGTON PHOTO CONTEST
See your photo on the City of Lexington website! The City of Lexington wants to jazz up the visual appeal of the City’s website (www.cityoflex.com). The City will pay $100 to one winner per month for photos submitted in June, July, August and September. There is also a $50 prize for second place winners each month. The contest is hoped to spur a lot of picture taking this summer, but existing photos from other seasons may be accepted, as long as they were taken within the last three years. Contestants may submit non-returnable prints or digital photos, and agree that any submission may be used by the City. The Lexington Chamber will soon be reprinting city maps. In order to provide these, we will be selling ad spaces. Hundreds of these maps are distributed each year. Contact Julie for more information 324-5504.

TAILGATE
The Lexington Area Chamber of Commerce Business Ed Tailgate will be prior to the Lexington vs. Sidney Football game. The tailgate will be Friday, September 17th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.
